National Principals Month Spotlight: Erica Morrie of Mountain Road ES!
October is National Principals Month! Our Principals are Elevating the Excellence every day in our schools by providing leadership and inspiration. We’re recognizing one of these amazing leaders each day. Please join us in thanking them for all they do each day for our students and families, teachers and staff, and communities! #CCSDElevateTheExcellence #ThankAPrincipal
Mountain Road Elementary School Principal Erica Morrie
Why did you choose to become a Principal?
I always imagined myself as a teacher in the classroom and that is where I would spend my career. However, a variety of leadership opportunities allowed me to develop a passion for expanding beyond classroom roles to impact more students and colleagues. I knew I would need to extend my professional growth at the building leader level. The role of a principal felt like the natural progression of my professional journey to provide a global impact on instruction, relationships, and community partnerships. In my heart, I am forever a classroom teacher, but now I get to see the classroom through a different lens.
What inspires you in your work as a Principal?
My inspiration comes from the people that fill the school. The relationships and growth I get to see and experience every day push me to be a better version of myself than the day before.
How are you Elevating the Excellence in your school?
This year, I am building a cohesive and collaborative environment where the students, staff, and community of Mountain Road Elementary School are striving for excellence in student achievement, instructional development, and building a rich climate and culture where everyone feels safe and valued. Having a shared vision will create opportunities to increase celebrations and be reflective on how we elevate from good to great!
