CCSDGives: Sequoyah HS JROTC Thanksgiving Food Drive

CCSDGives: Sequoyah HS JROTC Thanksgiving Food Drive

Sequoyah HS JROTC student cadets organize donations made so far for their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for MUST Ministries.

Cherokee County School District students learn the value of service year-round through charitable projects and volunteering.  During the holiday season, our schools stay especially busy with these projects.  To increase our students’ positive impact in the community, we will regularly share details of these projects with you through CCSDGives posts including how you can help.  #CCSDGives

WHAT: Sequoyah High School JROTC’s Sequoyah Zone Thanksgiving Food Drive for MUST Ministries.

WHO: Sequoyah HS Junior ROTC student cadets are leading the campaign throughout the Sequoyah Zone (high school and its feeder middle school and elementary schools)

WHY: The student cadets are collecting nonperishable food donations to create Thanksgiving food boxes for families in need served by MUST Ministries.  They will deliver the food boxes to MUST and volunteer there to help with distribution.  Sequoyah HS JROTC teacher Col. (Ret.) Detlef Klann shared that the delivery and distribution experience is very rewarding for students, noting that last year they even changed a flat tire for a woman in need at the event.  The longtime project has expanded over the years to include more schools, and this year’s goal is to fill 500 boxes, up from last year’s 427.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? Donations of nonperishable Thanksgiving food items can be dropped off during school hours through Nov. 15 at the front office of: Sequoyah HS (8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.); Dean Rusk MS (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Hickory Flat ES, Holly Springs ES STEM Academy and Mountain Road ES (all open 7:35 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.).  Questions?  Please email Detlef.Klann@cherokeek12.net
